Politician fired for Smoking!

Report by: Paddy MeGoolies

Monday 29th of March the Irish Government introduces Ireland’s first Smoking ban. Now it is illegal to smoke in restaurants, bars, nightclubs, enclosed public places and even in company vehicles. The only places that are not affected by this law are prisons and hotel bedrooms.

On Thursday the 1st of April a member of Fine Gael, the main opposition party to the government, Mr. John Deasy was caught smoking in the members only bar in government buildings just four days after the ban was introduced. He was dismissed straight away for his rebellious actions by his party leader Mr. Enda Kenny and will face the governments fine for breaking the smoking ban which is €3000 euro and or three months in prison, where he can smoke and the government will pay for his accommodation?

John Deasy

‘John Deasy Ireland’s first smoking criminal’.

A government spokes woman from the department of health said that ‘the reason for the ban was to promote health in the work place, cut the risk of heart disease, cancer and respiratory related problems which will reduce the outlay the government have to spend on Joe Public who have smoked themselves to be a problem for the government’.

‘Happy days are gone for some’

I think if they are going to go this far why don’t they ban smoking completely and make tobacco illegal especially if it’s costing them so much to look after dying people or would they loose too much revenue from the sale of tobacco products?
