Darrell Strawberry Becomes a Line Judge
by Steve (On The Road)

TAMPA, FLORIDA - Everybody's All-American, Darryl Strawberry,
was wearing a black and blue No. 18 Mets jersey when it was announced at
Tampa's Howard Johnson, that Strawberry had been named as a line judge
umpire for 2005 major league baseball games.
Darryl Strawberry, who has been moonlighting by the hour at the Park Motel,
came to the microphone and said: "I wore this uniform a long time. I had
some great trips in this uniform, I mean some great trips, even though
sometimes they were saying my years weren't the years I should have had. And
you know what? Most of the time, they were right. Somewhere between first
and third baselines, I forgot my way home. And I was saying, 'I Need A Hit'
An she was like, 'Gather round the good stuff!' And that last pitch was a
strike. Don't you know? Strawberry can't field forever."
This is Steve On the Road, reporting for JBN, US Navy, retired, 22 years. At
the Tampa news conference, few reporters were on hand when the announcement
was made, but it appears that Darrell Strawberry will in fact be working as
a line judge umpire in the 2005 season.
I have to tell my editor, Chas Laser that this 12 step report is in on time!
Darryl Strawberry seemed inflated after the announcement. He went on to
share that he'd helped the younger Strawberry to get started on judging his
first lines by giving
him a rolled-up twenty.
That is evident, Chas, by Strawberry's crack abilities at vocalizing both
fair and foul calls. When it comes to a line cut decision, Strawberry is
right on the money and definitely has a nose for taking in all of the
action!
Darryl Strawberry intimated to me that he was in such a fine mood over the
decision, that he was ready to party and he was going off in search of a
woman in uniform where he could "rock it all undercover."
So there you have it. After making the announcement concerning his bro.
Darrell, Darryl declined to comment further about what his other bro. Daryl,
Daryl was up to.
