Irish Gold Medalist's
Horse Fails Dope Test
Report by Paddy MeGoolies
Ireland’s only Olympic medal winning athlete Cian O’Connor who won a gold medal
in Athens for show jumping looks set to be stripped of his gold medal after his
horse ‘Waterford Crystal’ has tested positive for the banned performance
enhancing drugs Cocoa and sugar.
Mr. O’Connor told the Irish Equestrian Federation today ‘I am not a cheat!’ and
that he did give his horse one small piece of chocolate six months before the
finals and he couldn’t believe that one piece of chocolate would be enough to
give the horse performance enhancing abilities let alone would be traceable six
months later? ‘It was just a Hershey’s Kiss’.
The Irish Equestrian Federation is reviewing the case and will come to a
conclusion by Monday next.
A spokeswoman for Hershey’s Chocolate Inc. said ‘One kiss will not give a horse
extra performance to their knowledge but they appreciated the plug!’
We caught up with Waterford Crystal in The Happy Furlong bar in Waterford and he
said that He and I quote ‘ Neee heeee heeee heeee heeee heeee!!’ – ‘I have never
taken performance enhancing chocolate, I won that medal fair and square, I am in
peak condition, this is all natural muscle baby!!
