In a recent speech, New Orleans' beleaguered mayor, C. Ray Nagin, affirmed
"Our people are coming back!"
The mayor was referring to the millions of residents who evacuated from the
onslaught of Hurricane Katrina.
"As soon as many of them find the bus fare, our people are coming back..."
reiterated Mayor Nagin. "And when our people get back to New Orleans, they
will want something cold to drink! This our city! It's what we do. You know
how we do! We were the ones who looted this city! It was our city before
Katrina tripped on her high-heels, and it will be our city after everyone
else pays to have it rebuilt!"
"Don't be thinking that some outsiders who come to New Orleans with lots of
money and building materials is going to get back their money and buildings
and tell us what to do, because this city belongs to us."
"They may be bringing back New Orleans, but they'll be bringing it back to
our people, when they get back, later this year, next year or the year after
next year; our people will come back. And when our people come back, they're
going to
want a FEMA trailer, and they're going to want a cold drink."
"That is why we're selling parts of New Orleans, but we won't be selling our
part, or the parts that belong to our people. Our people when they come
back, will be buying and selling something cold to drink."
"That is why everyone can now buy New Orleans water. That is why H2NO is the
way to go, when you buy bottled water, because it contains Katrinites and
other Cajuns and Creoles spices, and you can only get those here from our
people."
"Our people will not only have Mardi Gras, but they will have a Coke Mardi
Gras, because, 'Things Go Better With Coke.' And
whenever people go to see
the Saints play at the SONY Dome, they will know that they can get either
H2NO or Coke or something else cold to drink, because this is New Orleans."
"Whether the people come to see the Crown Royal French Quarter, or the
Campbell's Soups Garden District, they will know who this city belongs to -
our people."
